Angola mourns with India and Pakistan following the earthquake
12 October 2005

The Angolan government is deeply saddened for the victims and damage caused by the weekend earthquake that hit India and Pakistan, particularly in the border region of Kashmir.

This sadness is contained in a message sent by the Angolan Minister for External Relations, João Bernardo de Miranda, to his counterparts, expressing to their respective governments and bereaved families his most heartfelt condolences.

In the message to Kurshid Kasuri, Pakistani Foreign Minister, Joao Miranda regrets the loss of more 23.000 of human lives, injury to thousands of people and the devastating destruction of infrastructures of Muzaffarabad, in the Kashmir region.

To his Indian colleague, Natwar Sing, the Angolan Minister for External Relations expresses consternation for the region being again hit, this year, by a new earthquake that is reported to have killed more than 300.000 people, added to other human and material damage.
